The Formal Unicorn Party (Week #8)
I don't even know where to start but I'm thinking I just throw the spiritual stuff at you now while I still have your attention. Yeah we're gonna do that. Ok this week I mostly read a lot of the book of mormon. I read from Alma 45ish to Helaman 7 in the last few days. There are some awesome chapters in there and I learned a couple really important lessons I wanted to share.
First, In Alma 56 it talks about the 2000 Strippling Warriors. Quickly I'm going to quote a few verses. (44-47)
44: .."Will ye go against them to battle?"
45: "Behold, I have never seen such great courage"
46: (Their response to the question in verse 44) "Behold our god is with us and he will not suffer that we should fall"
47: "They have never fought yet they did not fear death"
What I thought was really important is this: that if we change verse 44 to any question god asks of us or any commandment given of god, we need to have the courage necessary to know that god is with us and he will help us, even if it's something we've never done before we should not fear the task ahead.
Last Spiritual insight. Helaman 5, which is one of my favorite chapters, has a LOT for us to learn about. The biggest takeaway I had this time after reading however was in verse 30, it says
30: And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul.
This is super important because in this it reminds us that God and the spirit are so powerful and there's no need to be loud (like a lot of preachers around us think you have to be) and you don't need to be harsh or anything like that, the most important part of a message is the spirit and that comes in calmness and quiteness. Let the spirit talk when we teach about the gospel, if their heart is open to the teachings and we're teaching the truth the spirit will do the rest. Don't deliver the message harshly or try and scare them into making a right choice, that's not our place and Helaman 5:30 teaches why.
Ok, so first i'll explain the title. A couple days ago me and my companion were going to go clean the ward. We were told to be there at 16:00 so we got there at 16:00. Not one person cleaning was there and instead from way outside the ward building all we could hear was loud music, and no, this was not church music. Confused we continued and saw food decorations balloons everything. It was very very apparent that this was a little kids birthday party, Hello Kitty and Unicorn Themed. We went more inside just to make sure there was no cleaning going on and we were then invited to take a seat! They fed us tchep which was really good and gave us some sodas. Already doesn't really seem like a 5 year old birthday huh. then looking around all we could see were adults with the rare exception of a couple kids, all dressed like this was some formal get together. Women in dresses, Men in nice shirts or plaid or whatever. Also this music was not kid music, not the words, or the volume. Turns out theres no cleaning going on and we got lessons to go to and i was honestly feeling pretty sick so we got out of there and started teaching. After teaching a couple lessons we came back to make sure the mess of a formal unicorn party was cleaned up and sure enough there were people cleaning 3 hours later. Sadly we couldnt help cause curfew was coming up but i was feeling sick anyways so i wasnt too bummed. It was this night that i lost the streak. 8 years strong of not throwing up and all my tchep went straight out of my mouth down the toilet. It was so long without throwing up i honestly forgot what it felt like and now i remember why i hated it so much. Luckily it was just a stomach bug cause im feeling much better and healthier now and i only was at the toilet a couple times in the night but dang, two weeks in the field and im already letting it out haha.
That's pretty much it, We met a new guy named ghislain who actually speaks english, he learned english through music which is actually way cool, he seems really really interested and i can help in lessons which is way nice. It's been awesome seeing his progression and we should have a lesson with him in about an hour. We have a close friend named marcellin who always makes bets online with premier league games but I always bet with him and say "If liverpool wins this game you have to read a chapter of the book of mormon" the first time they lost so i actually had to learn a little bit of ivorian slang, but the next time he bet bournemouth would beat liverpool 2-0, I said if you're wrong and liverpool wins you have to read TWO chapters of the book of mormon, we shook on it, Liverpool won 9-0. Im pretty sure that's the spirits way of saying Marcellin has to read the entire book of mormon. Ok thats the most important stuff! Thanks for reading and ill be sure to keep you guys updated every week. I hope you guys are interested haha. Love you all and miss you all. Heres some pictures
