Carson’s Hospital Stay (week 64) - complied by Mom
Sept 20 2023
This is how we communicate on days that aren't Carson's Pday (individual questions answered by emojis):
Sept 22:
C:
I can call if u want today
Me:
Still sick? 😩
What time?
My lunch is at 10:30
My day is pretty psycho before that time but if it needs to be before that we can make it work!
C:
That works
I think I'm leaving the hospital this evening
But I’m not sure
*(We found out he went to the hospital Wednesday afternoon the day we did questions and emojis)
Me:
Shoot!
You’ve been so sick for so long
C:
Yeah I've had an on and off fever for 2 weeks now
Me:
Wanna tell me what you have? Or are you loving the suspense?
C:
Then I had covid like 3-4 weeks ago
IDK what I have…
Me:
They don’t know huh?
High fevers.
C:
They said that when there's constant on and off fevers like this that means there's a problem. But they did the tests and I don't have dengue I don't have malaria I don't have typhoid or anything like that.
So now they're doing a really specific blood test to see the problem
But it takes a while
They're just trying to figure out the cause
……
C:
He just came in
Lung infection
Caused by bacteria
Is what they think
Me:
Wanna call now? I have 30 min and dad is awake
C:
Sure
*We got to chat for quite a while that day (Friday) and Saturday.
Sunday I woke up to this:
Sept 24th:
C:
Well at about like 11 my chest started feeling a little tighter and when I took deep breathes I had to cough
So they changed the IV
And it fixed
And also where they inserted the iv into my wrist started to swell and hurt really bad to touch, so they they took it out and they're gonna replace it soon in a different spot
That's kinda normal tho
I was moving it around a lot I think I hit it in the night and irritated it
Also the main doctor told me if the medicine was working right the cough would come back for a little then leave and not come back
So I'm hoping it was that
I'm staying the night again
The results are taking too long to come in
Me:
Granny wants to know-
"Hmmm...replaced iv with different medicine? 🙏 🙏🙏"
C:
Yeah different stuff, still antibiotics
*We got to talk again today (Sunday). He sounds good and has been fever free for 2 days. The plan is for him to go home tomorrow (Monday the 25th).
He is in the best hospital in Cotê d'Ivoire. It's outside of his mission but really close to the mission home so the office elders visited one day and brought a package that I sent with Ethan Hart, a friend from school in Lehi, who just arrived in the neighboring mission!
Perfect timing!! ❤
