First Week in the MTC
*Bonjour! I miss you all so much! This first week has been INSANE! The flight to Ghana went well, we met up with about 10 missionaries flying out of SLC to JFK and then in JFK I kid you not we met up with at least 20+ missionaries all heading to Ghana, It was amazing. We all got the experience to meet each other and get to know each other so I knew coming to the MTC would be great because I already made tons of friends. The flight was long but went well! We arrived in Ghana and it is wonderful here. Then we arrived at the MTC and that was such an amazing experience. The MTC looks nothing like how I expected it to. It looks better than I even imagined the provo MTC to be so let's just say it surpassed expectations. There's a full turf Soccer Field in the back along with 2 sand volleyball courts and a workout area with ping pong and more. The auditorium is HUGE and the residencies are amazing! Now the cafeteria. There is so much food wow. And all of it's amazing! The servers don't really understand us too well so they just keep throwing rice on your plate until you make noises at them. Usually the meals consist of LOTS of super tasty rice, chicken and some sort of side. It's been really good! I think it's safe to say I'll probably gain weight while I'm in the MTC.
My companion's name is Elder Makwasha. His goal is to play with ja morant in the NBA. I felt really bad because when he first told me that I laughed a little and was like oh that'd be awesome! Turns out he's dead serious, which is great! Good on him for setting big goals if he works super hard, I'm sure he can make it, I just didn't expect it. * In other news, Elder Makwasha and I are the new district leaders! My district/zone has definitely been one of the highlights of my mission experience so far. The group we have is so funny and we all get along pretty well. The other district to the side of us has 8 as well and I won't go into full detail but they have some really really fun people in that group so it's been super fun getting together as districts and all hanging out! Our district has 8 people in it. Two sisters from Ghana, Three elders from Utah (including me) One elder from Zimbabwe, (my companion), One from Arizona and one from Corona California. Because of us being the new district leaders we were instructed to give the come follow me lesson on sunday.. We did the lesson on miracles, and how to learn to expect them. I'd like to invite everyone on this email thread to go and read 3 Nephi Chapters 7-13 whenever you do your scripture study. That block of scriptures is stuffed full of miracles and is one of my favorite chunks of the Book of Mormon.
Also Le Sport (our sport break) has been super fun! I actually play way better with all the natives because they are much better at passing! Not that they were necessarily bad but we all the white usa kids(including me) have a habit of just kinda getting the ball and running then maybe passing if they have the chance but with the natives its constantly pass go pass go pass go. I love love love that play style and its super fun and way fascinating. After my first game with them, which actually went super well, they would all meet up with me in the elevators or the hallways or the cafeteria and walk up to me in very broken english and say something like "you, american, very good at football" or "man, you play like, african" It's actually been super super funny and has definitely cracked a laugh out of all of us.
I feel super blessed because of the opportunities I've been given here in the MTC. To help lead my district and also, just the amazing people that I've had placed around me. My teachers are definitely the best in the MTC and I've learned so much from them. I've learned so much new information. Obviously it's hard and language is coming along very slowly but it's coming! I'm learning more every day. I memorized the missionary purpose, Moroni 10:5, and a few other things and I have a very solid basic knowledge of the French language and some rules so that's something! I'm also very blessed to be literally right next door to the Ghana Accra temple! We get to go do endowments today and I'm super super excited. The temple is beautiful and the view from the MTC at night is a whole other level of beautiful.
I miss you all so much! Please feel free to leave a note back! I love reading all of the things you have to say! Also just so everyone knows my P-Day is officially every Thursday for the duration of my 6 week MTC stay so be ready and I hope Thursday is your new favorite day of the week! Just kidding haha, here's some pictures feel free to check it all out. Love you all.
